As promised in a previous article, the following is a list of art galleries in Havana that will be of great interest to Cuban art collectors and those interested in the cultural works of Cuba. These art galleries in Havana offer the widest selection of both contemporary Cuban art and art by international artists exhibiting in Havana.
Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes-Coleccion Cubana
Location: Calle Trocadero, e/Av. De la Belgica (Misiones/Egido/Monserrate) y Calle Agramonte (Zelueta), Centro
The Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes-Coleccion Cubana contains an extensive collection of both traditional and contemporary Cuban art, making this one of the most exciting collections of art in all Havana. From the 16th century to the artists of the 21st century, the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes-Coleccion Cubana should not be missed when visiting Havana.
La Acacia
Location: Calle San José núm. 114 entre Industrias y Consulado, Centro Habana.
La Acacia art gallery is one of the most well known commercial art galleries in Havana and houses one of the best art collection in the city. Its art exhibits feature famous Cuban artists, movements and themes. Collections from La Acacia can also be found at the galleries of the Plaza Hotel and the Tocororo.
Centro de Arte Contemporáneo Wifredo Lam (Centro Wifredo Lam)
Location: Calle San Ignacio núm. 22 esquina a Empedrado, old Havana
Dedicated to the great Cuban surrealist artist Wifredo Lam, situated just behind the Cathedral of Havana in the 18th century former casa del Obispo Peñalver you will find the art of Wifredo Lam. The Centro Wifredo Lam houses the permanent art collection of Wilfred Lam, his lithographs and etchings. You will also be able to view a variety of exhibits featuring other South American and Cuban artists. The Wifredo Lam gallery is the center for the organization of the bi-annual Havana Art Biennial, an important forum for the promotion of art from the third world.
Fundación Havana Club
Location: Calle San Pedro núm. 262 esquina a Sol, La Habana Vieja.
The Fundación Havana Club is both a commercial gallery and also features exhibitions of primitive or naïve art of great interest to collectors of Cuban art around the world.
Villa Manuela
Location: Calle H entre 17 y 19, El Vedado.
Since 2004, one of the most prominent and famous galleries in Havana is the Villa Manuela. Villa Manuela is the art gallery of the National Union of Writers and Artists (UNEAC) and holds exhibits the works of contemporary Cuban artists. Art collectors are also able to buy Cuban art at the Villa Manuela gallery and Cuban artists are able to sell their art.
Taller Experimental de Gráfica
Location: Callejon del Chorro 62, La Habana Vieja
The Taller Experimental de Gráfica is a famous engraving workshop in Havana. The gallery exhibits graphic engraving by Cuban artists. Worth dropping by to view the works and works in progress.
Roberto Diago Gallery
Location: Calle Muralla núm. 107 esquina a San Ignacio, La Habana Vieja.
The Roberto Diago Gallery is both a commercial art gallery as well as an exhibition space featuring Afro-Cuban art known as art naïve or primitive art. There is also a great patio here.
La Casona
Location: Calle Muralla 107 La Habana Vieja.
La Casona art gallery located in a beautiful old mansion in the Plaza Vieja. La Casona exhibits and sells the works of contemporary Cuban artists.
