Boy on an Island by Jesus Borjas. This painting was created in 2000, about the time of the controversy surrounding the little boy Elian Gonzalez. Elian Gonzales left Cuba with his mother and others and encountered difficulties on the sea leaving most of the passengers drowned.
Elian Gonzales was found floating in an inner tube with two other people. A custody battle ensued but, in the end, the boy was returned to his father in Cuba.
This painting, a fine example of Cuban art is painted in the Naïve art style, oil on canvas.
The painting is sold.
