There’s always Cuba’s beloved “el Che”,  Ernesto Che Guevara, seen almost everywhere you go in Cuba.  The graffiti art scene in Havana is alive and well.  Along the decrepit walls, on the side streets and on the main streets you can see the art of the street artists of Havana.  Oh yeah, and make no mistake, these anonymous street artists make it overtly or subtly political.  From the faces of the revolutionary heroes of Cuba to the criticism of the concept of the Santa Claus who never comes or the skeleton of death overlooking the city, it’s passionate.  It’s critical.  It’s vibrant, like the city:  it’s alive.  Continue reading »

Juan Lázaro Gutiérrez Momblas is one of the Cuban artists we met by chance one afternoon wandering along the interesting streets of Havana. In Havana, it doesn’t matter if you lose your way because you will always find your destination in the end and then you will find your way back home again.  And while you are lost, you will be surrounded by the constant rhythm of the city, it’s music, its art, its crumbling beauty, its hustle, its charming people.  This the thing I love about Havana.  There is always something new to discover in this historical city. This painting of the Cathedral in Havana by Cuban artist Pavel Moraguez Mok, a Cuban artist from Holguin is a work commissioned by a private collector a few years ago.
